Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy
Heal Your Wounded Parts and Discover Your True Self
If you feel like you are constantly on edge, disconnected, or even at war with yourself – torn between conflicting thoughts, emotions, or behaviors – you are far from alone.
Whether or not you are consciously aware of them, we all have different parts of ourselves that make up our personalities and who we are.
How often has part of you wanted to slow down and rest, while another part pushes you to keep striving? One part tells you to walk away from a relationship, while another begs you to stay and fix it. Maybe there is a voice inside that constantly criticizes you and another that just wants to hide in the background and disappear.
I am here to let you know that you are not broken … and you do not have to keep feeling this way.
Having different parts of yourself is not only normal – it is human.
The problems arise when we are disconnected from the various parts of ourselves – when we are unaware of the pain, fear, or shame they are carrying that has not been heard or healed.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy offers a radically compassionate, deeply effective way to understand yourself – and finally experience lasting change.
By turning toward the parts of you that are hurting, instead of away from them, IFS Therapy can help you build a new relationship with your inner world – one rooted in calm curiosity and compassion.
If you are ready to do the work necessary to better understand yourself, I encourage you to contact me today and learn more about how IFS Therapy can help you create profound healing and growth.
How Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Can Help
IFS Therapy is a compassionate, evidence‑based approach to individual counseling and therapy that can help you understand and heal the different “parts” of yourself.
We all have a variety of inner parts – the inner critic, the people‑pleaser, the perfectionist, the anxious part, or the part that shuts down. The important thing to keep in mind is that there are no “bad parts.”
When something overwhelming or traumatic happens, our inner system can respond by developing protective parts – parts that manage fear, pain, or shame so you can keep going. But sometimes those protective parts become stuck, and the pain becomes internalized. You might feel fragmented, in conflict with yourself, or like you have lost touch with who you really are.
None of our parts are “flaws” – they are simply aspects of who we are that are trying to protect us, often in ways that made sense in the past but might be causing pain or confusion now.
For example, if you only received recognition growing up when you helped others, then a “codependent” part of you may still be trying to achieve love and attention the same way, leaving you to repeat the same relationship wounds you experienced earlier in life.
In this case, the “codependent part” is not the problem. It is only trying to help you in the best way it knows how. The problem lies in not being aware of its existence and the pain and longing it still holds.
The goal of IFS Therapy is not to get rid of these wounded parts, but to connect with them, understand them, heal them, and bring more balance to your internal world.
At the core of IFS is the belief that you also have a wise, grounded Self – calm, curious, compassionate – which can lead the way toward healing, harmony, and growth.
Perhaps better still, IFS Therapy has been shown to be extremely effective for a wide range of emotional and psychological issues, including:
- Anxiety, stress, panic attacks, and phobias
- Depression, grief, and loss
- Emotional overwhelm
- Low self‑esteem, self‑criticism, and shame
- Trauma and complex PTSD
- Perfectionism, people‑pleasing, and issues around setting boundaries
- Life transitions and identity work
And that is to name but a few!
IFS is such a profoundly powerful therapeutic approach because it does not pathologize you. This is not about treating some problems or “fixing” you … it is about exploring your internal system with curiosity and respect so healing can come from within, from your Self, rather than relying on some external solution.
Many of my clients have come to appreciate the deeply respectful and empowering path to change that IFS Therapy offers – one that honors all parts of who they are.

Am I the Best IFS Therapist for You?
While IFS Therapy can be an incredibly powerful approach to healing, no one therapeutic modality works equally well for everyone.
We all take different paths to healing and growth.
This is why it is usually best to find a behavioral and mental health therapist who is not only trained in IFS Therapy, but who can also incorporate other healing modalities into sessions when necessary. It is also why I typically combine IFS Therapy with EMDR Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, CBT, ACT, DBT, harm reduction, mindfulness, as well as other therapeutic approaches and techniques.
My aim is always to tailor my work to meet your unique needs in each session – while remaining focused on your goals for therapy.
But more important than any therapy technique, you need to feel safe, seen, and heard. You need to find a therapist you feel comfortable with – someone who understands your unique personality, your story, your pace.
So how do you know if I am the best IFS Therapist for you?
The best way to find out if we are a good fit is to reach out and schedule a free consultation. Let us talk about what you are looking for, and see if working together feels right for you.
What I can tell you is that IFS Therapy is a collaborative process.
In our work together, you will:
- Learn to recognize the different parts of you that are active in your life
- Explore and understand what each part is trying to say or do for you – even if its strategies are no longer working
- Gently heal the wounded parts that may be carrying old pain, fear, shame, or trauma
- Discover how to access and strengthen your Self – the calm, grounded presence within you that will help you continue to heal and grow long after our work together is complete
We will do all of this while moving at your pace. You are always in control of the process. And I will make sure you feel safe, grounded, and supported every step of the way.
When all is said and done, IFS Therapy offers a truly unique form of healing.
Rather than pushing away your inner struggles or learning specific coping strategies or techniques to keep pushing forward, IFS Therapy can help you build a trusting relationship with yourself and transform inner conflict into harmony.
If you are tired of running around in emotional or relational circles – feeling pulled in a hundred directions and wondering if things will ever change – I invite you to reach out today.
